There is a widespread misconception that modern environments
must be harsh and unwelcoming. Large, paneled windows let in a lot of natural
light, which enhances the beauty of your surroundings and outlook. A plush
headboard and a few pieces of modern art in frames could add a splash of your
favorite colors. Too much metal in a bedroom can make it feel cold, but the
right metal modern accents have the opposite effect. Begin with metal-legged
chairs, curved chrome lamp fixtures, or even an iron dresser or end table with
a glass top.
Textured panels are another way to liven up a drab master
bedroom ceiling. These panels are available in a variety of styles, including contemporary
geometric patterns and vintage embossed metal tiles. You can also use textured
wallpaper to give the ceiling a natural look. Beams in a master bedroom
can be painted black to make a bold statement and to create a rustic or
midcentury vibe. Shiplap and beam ceilings are ideal for farmhouses and
cottages. The tightly fitting boards provide just enough texture without being
too much.
In addition to looking great, your master bedroom floor
should feel opulent to walk on. If you choose carpet, choose the softest,
thickest pile you can afford. If you like hardwoods, make sure the surface is
satiny smooth and the joints are sanded evenly. Remember that using a satin
finish rather than a shine can help to hide footprints, dust, and other visible
dirt in between cleanings. Use an area rug or throw rug to soften the look of
your bedroom and provide a comfortable place for your feet to land in the
morning. Fluffy floats or solid shag carpets look great in modern or midcentury-inspired
homes, while traditional settings look great with traditional carpets.
